Charlottesville, Va. -- Charlotte 49ers senior Alex Cornwell (Harrisburg, N.C./Hickory Ridge H.S.) carried the Charlotte 49ers men's cross country team to its best-ever finish at Friday's NCAA Southeast Regional meet.
Cornwell earned USTFCCCA all-Southeast Region honors with his 10th-place finish to lead the 49ers into fifth place. Charlotte's previous best finish in the event was sixth in 2017. Last year, the 49ers finished seventh.
Host Virginia and Virginia Tech placed 1-2 in the meet, followed by NC State and Furman. Charlotte was fifth, ahead of Duke, Wake Forest and North Carolina, which rounded out the top eight in the 35-team field.
