SPOKANE, Washington — Don’t tell Sue Guevara that the Central Michigan women’s basketball is a “Cinderella.”
The term, coined after the classic fairytale, refers to teams that are winning games in the NCAA Tournament as a low seed. The Chippewas, an No. 11 seed in the Spokane region, remain along with No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 2 Oregon and No. 1 Notre Dame.
Guevara said she talked to her team about the “Cinderella" label. She doesn’t feel her team mirrors that character or story at all.
“Everybody knows the story of Cinderella, right?” Guevara said at a March 23 press conference.
