The Minnesota Vikings turned groans to cheers and in the process won a new family of fans.

The Vikings drafted former L’Anse Creuse North standout Tyler Conklin in the fifth round Saturday, ending the Central Michigan tight end’s wait for his name to be called as dozens of family and friends gathered at the Conklin home in Chesterfield Township.

“Long,” Conklin said when asked about the 90 minutes that preceded Minnesota making him the 157th selection in the draft. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this. I’m a professional football player.
