SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The goals on opening weekend for the Central Michigan track and field team were to meet qualifying standards for the Mid-American Conference championships, and to establish starting points.
On both counts, the Chippewas did quite well.
CMU student-athletes competed at three meets, and at all three, several produced solid performances.
The Chippewas notched three first places at the Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic, and they recorded a combined five MAC-qualifying times at both the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
• At Eastern Illinois, the Chippewas’ Cole Walderzak won the men’s hammer throw, Kevin Weiler won the men’s shot put, and Megan O’Neil placed first in the women’s 5,000-meter run.
