Track teams split up to start outdoor season, begin Friday at Stanford, San Francisco State, Eastern Illinois

Long sprint runners practice on March 30 at the CMU outdoor track.

This weekend, the men's and women's Central Michigan Track and Field teams will be splitting up for the first competition of the outdoor season.

The 400-meter and distance runners will run at the Stanford University Invitational in California while the distance runners will be headed to San Francisco State for the Distance Carnival, also in California. The rest of the team will travel to Eastern Illinois for the Big Blue Classic.

“We are chasing competition,” said Assistant Coach Bryant Wilson. “Stanford is a fairly elite meet with entry standards you have to meet to make it in and the distance runners compete a few times a year, and this will be a hot meet (for them).
