Starting from scratch: Central Michigan junior Joe Austin enjoying 'amazing' year that will conclude at Miami Beach Bowl

Bridgeport High School is not known for success in the realm of prep football.

When current Central Michigan junior starting left tackle Joe Austin was on the varsity for the Bearcats between 2010 and 2012, the program went a combined 1-27 over that three-year span.

That was certainly not out of the ordinary for a varsity team at Bridgeport that has exactly one postseason appearance in school history, that coming back in 1999. That Bearcats team seventeen years ago represents the only winning record by the program since back-to-back positive marks in 1988 and ’89.

Bridgeport football is certainly not to be confused with Bridgman, a school that produced Central Michigan kicker/punter Cooper Mosjiejenko and has achieved playoff status the last five seasons.
