Central Michigan University football coach John Bonamego confirmed Thursday morning that the Chippewas are installing a spread offense for the 2017 season.
The belief following the 2016 CMU campaign was that a switch from a pro-style offense to a spread attack would happen, with previous offensive coordinator Morris Watts retiring after a coaching career that lasted over 50 years.
Bonamego went the in-house route to select his new offensive coordinator, handing the reins over to former running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Gino Guidugli. But that idea went haywire in February when Guidugli left Central Michigan for a running backs coach job at his alma mater of Cincinnati, leaving the Chippewas in a bind with little time to spare before the beginning of spring practice.
