AVON, Ohio – Nick Deeg threw a complete-game shutout Thursday as sixth-seeded Central Michigan kept its season alive with a 4-0 victory over No. 2 seed Ball State in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The junior left-hander Deeg (4-7) allowed only four hits and a walk over nine innings while striking out eight to carry the Chippewas (22-36) to the victory.
Central Michigan scored once in the bottom of the second for the only run of support Deeg would end up needing. Daniel Jipping, who was named to the All-MAC second team earlier this week, walked to lead off the frame and later scored on a bases loaded walk drawn by Morgan Oliver.
