NCAA places three-year ban on new bowl games

Following a record 41 postseason games in the 2015-16 Division I college football season, the NCAA has approved a three-year moratorium on new bowl games, according to reports.

New bowl games will not be allowed until after the 2019 season.

Three teams with a 5-7 record were deemed bowl eligible this past season — Nebraska, San Jose State and Central Michigan's Quick Lane Bowl opponent, Minnesota.

The NCAA's ruling stunted three new bowls that were poised to make their first appearance in the 2016 college football postseason. Austin, Texas, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina were the cities preparing for new bowls.
