Nate Schneider: Central Michigan seniors deserve your salute

Very few years during the history of Central Michigan men’s basketball are truly worth reminiscing about.

Sorry, but those are the facts.

The state of the program was in such bad shape only a handful of years ago that it became a celebrated feat in 2009 when the Chippewas shared the Mid-American Conference West Division title with a 7-9 mark. Central Michigan finished that season under Ernie Zeigler with a 12-19 overall record, while in 2010 he led his squad to the outright MAC West championship with his benchmark season of 15-15 and 9-7 records.

Zeigler managed only a 21-42 combined record the next two seasons and was fired following a rocky six-year tenure, while several top players from the CMU roster opted to transfer rather than wait it out with a new head coach.
