MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan’s John Simons was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Co-Player of the Week in men’s basketball.
Simons, a senior forward, averaged 18 points and 8.5 rebounds in helping the Chippewas to victories over Northern Illinois and Toledo.
The victories lifted CMU 16-13 overall, 9-7 in the MAC. The Chippewas play a key league game at Ball State on Tuesday. The Cardinals, who are 10-6 in league play, lead the MAC West by one game over the Chippewas.
In a 76-64 victory over NIU, Simons hit 50 percent of his field goal attempts and all six of his free throw tries en route to a game-high 17 points.
