MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – John Bonamego was an NFL assistant coach for 16 seasons, working primarily with special teams.
So he, of all people, understands the importance that specialists – kickers, punters, long snappers and place holders – have in the game of football. When Bonamego saw an opportunity to help specialists on his Central Michigan football team, he seized it.
Shayne Graham, who played 15 NFL seasons, joined Bonamego’s staff in a quality control capacity prior to the 2017 season. He works with the specialists, though it is in more of a hybrid advisory/mentorship capacity than that of a coach in the traditional sense because he is in quality control.
