Late comeback attempt by Central Michigan falls short in loss at Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. — The Central Michigan University men’s basketball team dropped an 87-83 decision Saturday evening at Northern Illinois.

The Chippewas drop to 10-5 overall and 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Huskies improve to 9-6 and 1-1.

Central Michigan led 20-17 with 8:19 left in the first half following a free throw by senior guard Braylon Rayson, who led all scorers with 29 points.

Northern Illinois followed with an 8-0 run and eventually went into halftime leading by a count of 35-28.

In the second half, the Huskies continued their surge and led by as much as 56-39 with 12:25 remaining after a layup by Laytwan Porter.
