For his on-field accomplishments on Opening Day 2018, Central Michigan baseball right-handed pitcher Michael Brettell earned Mid-American Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week honors.
Brettell, in CMU’s 5-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin at Edinburg Stadium in the Al Ogletree Classic, pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball, earning a career-high 10 strikeouts. The ace of the Chippewas allowed one run on six hits.
The 6-foot-3 right-hander pitches 90-94 miles per hour on his power sinker, along with throwing a changeup, slider and splitter. He is expected lead the starting pitchers in Mount Pleasant throughout this season.
Along with Brettell, the other pitcher to win the award was Miami (Ohio) junior right-hander Nick Ernst.
