AKRON, Ohio - The Central Michigan University softball team picked up a 3-0 victory Thursday in a second-round Mid-American Conference Tournament game from Firestone Stadium.
The Chippewas scored twice in the top of the fifth and added a single run in the sixth to top fifth-seeded Ball State in an elimination game.
Junior slugger Sydney Heath belted a two-run home run, her third of the campaign, in the fifth to give the Chippewas a 2-0 lead.
A walk to Rachel Vieira and a double from Morgan Gardner in the sixth accounted for CMU’s final run.

The Chippewas (37-14) got a great game out of senior ace Rachael Knapp (22-9) as she went all seven frames, allowing no runs on three hits while walking one and striking out 10.
