MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The axiom that a football game is won and lost up front is in reference to the interior line, tackle-to-tackle.
Cornerbacks and wide receivers are every much a part of that upfront battle as, say, the center and his dance partner, the nose guard. But unlike their brethren inside, the cornerback-receiver successes and mistakes are magnified, the outcome often instantaneous and game-changing.
The cornerback makes a miscue or just flat out gets beat, it often results in a touchdown and ends up on the highlight reel.
