MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Installation of the new synthetic turf at Central Michigan University’s Kelly/Shorts Stadium is on schedule to be completed by July 23, according to Associate Vice President Steve Lawrence.
Work on the field began on June 6, when the old turf was removed.
The first layer is a limestone gravel that required grading to give it a pitched profile.
Work crews began laying the panels, which measure 3 feet-by-5 feet, along with the turf itself on Friday. The panels are made of a porous material and feature a grooved underside, both of which help facilitate drainage.
