Robb Akey is no stranger to Jim McElwain, and now he's joining him on Central Michigan's football staff for the 2019 season.
Akey worked as the defensive line coach at Florida in 2017 under McElwain, and according to recruits and a member of the athletic department, is going to be the next defensive coordinator in Mount Pleasant – replacing Greg Colby.
The 52-year-old has coached in the NFL, making stops at Minnesota and Washington as a defensive line coach. His only defensive coordinator experience was with Northern Arizona from 1996-98 and Washington State from 2003-06.
