Central Michigan women use fourth-quarter spurt to best SIU-Edwardsville

After losing four straight contests to fall to 4-4 on the season, it’s safe to say that the Central Michigan women’s basketball team needed a win in its final non-conference home tie against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Monday.

But at the end of the first half things were looking bleak as the Chippewas, who were absent head coach Sue Guevara, shot just 29.4-percent over the opening 20 minutes to find themselves in a 33-26 hole.

Things sure can change quickly however, as a 24-point second half explosion from sophomore Cassie Breen coupled with a dominant defensive performance in the fourth sparked an extended run as CMU overcame a 13-point deficit to capture a 13-point victory, 78-65.
