MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Athletics got dressed up and did some celebrating, some congratulating, some highlighting and even some karaoke.
It was the Chippewa Athletic Awards at Plachta Auditorium, where CMU student-athletes, coaches, team personnel and Chippewa fans and supporters turned out to see videotaped highlights.
CMU alum Nick Austin served as the master of ceremonies. Austin is a former sports anchor at WNEM TV5 in Saginaw and now serves as the scoreboard and web producer for the Detroit Tigers.
Among the evening’s non-award highlights were a video tribute to the late Dick Enberg, CMU’s most famous alum who went on to become one of the most successful and celebrated sports broadcasters in history; a video feature on CMU student-athletes’ academic success, including the point that the cumulative grade point average of Chippewa student-athletes has been 3.
