Case Western Reserve University sophomore Mark Gross was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week, after his standout performance for the Spartans last weekend.
Gross threw the first complete-game of his career on Saturday, leading the Spartans to a 6-1 victory over Allegheny College, the team's first win of the season. The right-handed pitcher did not allow an earned run in his nine innings of work, while yielding just four hits and three walks and striking out seven batters, also a career-high. During the 124-pitch effort, he allowed just two runners past second base, and surrendered just one unearned run on a caught stealing in the fifth inning.
