Case Western Reserve University sophomore right-handed pitcher Kyle Gearding was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week after leading the Spartans to a 10-0 win in seven innings at Brandeis University on Saturday.
Gearding went the distance in the game, throwing the first complete-game shutout of his career. Over his seven innings of work, he allowed just two hits and a pair of walks, while striking out six batters. He threw just 77 pitches (51 for strikes) in the game and improved to 5-1 for the campaign with the win while lowering his ERA to 3.
