Case Western Reserve University freshman left-handed pitcher Nick Denove was named the NCAA Division III Rookie of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, becoming the first player in program history to garner the honor.
Denove threw the first complete-game shutout by a Spartan pitcher this season, leading the team to a 6-0 win in the second game of a four-game series at New York University last Saturday. He was able to hold NYU (which entered the weekend leading all UAA teams in batting average and runs per game) to just five hits and two walks, earning the win in the game.
