The Case Western Reserve University baseball team was among the 292 total teams, including 78 NCAA Division III programs, to receive the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2017-18 year.
In order to be recognized, teams must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2017-18 academic year.
The Spartans finished the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.254 in 2017-18. Among the individual Spartans earning academic honors during the year were junior infielder Rocco Maue, who was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America team, while senior outfielder Nate Glasser, junior pitcher Mark Gross, senior pitcher Liam Killingstad, sophomore pitcher Scott Kutschke, Maue, sophomore outfielder Noah Mehrle, senior pitcher Ben Murphy, junior utility player Mike Najmowicz, sophomore outfielder Chris Shorter, sophomore pitcher Paul Slota, sophomore pitcher Matthew Speitel, junior catcher Tyler Wypiszenski, and sophomore pitcher Tony Yambor each claimed UAA All-Academic recognition.
