When the Case Western Reserve University football team last saw the field in 2019, the Spartans had just clinched the second Presidents' Athletic Conference title in program history, while qualifying for the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the fifth time in team history and the second time in the last three years. The squad was slated to return the majority of its players for the 2020 campaign and was primed for the chance to repeat as conference champions and, potentially, to make a deep run in the NCAA postseason.
While the opportunity of the 2020 season was lost due to the pandemic, the immediate future remains bright for the Spartans, who will enter 2021 with a group that is as talented, albeit less experienced in many areas, compared to the one that last saw the field for the navy and gray in a 24-21 loss at Union College in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs.
