Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he treated reigning MVP Cam Newton like any other player when he benched him for the first series of their game against the Seattle Seahawks for a dress code violation.
Newton said not wearing a tie violated the policy, which put him on the sidelines for what turned out to be one play -- an interception by his backup Derek Anderson that set the tone for an ugly 40-7 loss in Seattle.
Did Rivera make the right call or should he have overlooked Newton's fashion no-no?
