Three thoughts from Joseph Person on the Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers fans and Charlotte media have had a lot of fun with Swayze Waters’ name since he signed during the offseason. But the former CFL standout looks like he’ll go to training camp as the starting punter.

Waters averaged 47.7 yards per punt in 2014, when he was the CFL’s special teams player of the year. He missed most of last season with a hip flexor injury.

Three punters were drafted last weekend, all in the sixth and seventh rounds. Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said he didn’t think there were any punters worth drafting late.
