The Carolina Panthers made a quick decision after last night’s kicking competition between incumbent Joey Slye and newcomer Ryan Santoso. The team released Slye today as part of their winnowing of the training camp roster into its regular season shape.
Slye has struggled increasingly this offseason and over the last season, but had been considered worth the hit-and-miss record given the nature of his booming leg. That record, however, has been erring more on the side of miss this offseason. He made five of eight field goals and one of two extra points this preseason and lost a kicking competition in practice to Panther-for-a-day Domenik Eberle.
