The Carolina Panthers need Ron Rivera’s steady leadership now more than ever

Thank heaven for Ron Rivera.

The five most important non-player jobs in football are owner, general manager, head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator. At least that’s the way I see it. With the 2017 season now in the books, the Carolina Panthers will likely go into 2018 with four of these five key positions occupied by new people. The circumstances behind most of the turnover are less than ideal.

Owner Jerry Richardson is selling the team after reports of workplace misconduct. “Interim” general manager Marty Hurney was a likely candidate for the full-time gig, but allegations of domestic violence made by his ex-wife will undoubtedly complicate the general manager hiring process.
