The Carolina Panthers have released safety Eric Reid, according to a report from ESPN’s David Newton.
Reid has confirmed the news himself on Twitter.
This is an interesting decision by the Panthers considering they just signed him to a three-year contract last year. They are expected to designate him as a post-June 1 cut to spread the dead money over two years, and will save around $5.5 million against the 2020 salary cap.
I guess this means that Tre Boston and Juston Burris are the team’s starting safeties in 2020, otherwise this move really doesn’t make that much sense.
