Surgery sidelines Panthers’ Brenton Bersin

Carolina Panthers receiver Brenton Bersin had surgery on his left ankle on Wednesday to remove a spur, the team announced on Friday.

The surgery was performed successfully by team orthopedist Robert Anderson.

Bersin will miss the remainder of organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp in June, but is expected to be back for Panthers training camp at his alma mater, Wofford.

Bersin had two catches last season and signed a one-year extension with the team in the spring, but had worked with trainers on the sideline for OTAs in May.

“He tried to get through the conditioning program and OTAs but it started bothering him,” head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion told the team website.
