CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers have reached an agreement in principle with former NFL head coach Norv Turner to become their offensive coordinator, a league source told ESPN on Thursday.
An official announcement could come as early as Friday.
Turner, 65, will replace Mike Shula, who along with quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey, was fired on Tuesday.
Turner's son, Scott, who worked with the quarterbacks at the University of Michigan this past season, will be the new position coach for Cam Newton, according to another source.
Coach Ron Rivera made the move because he felt a change was needed to further the development of Newton, who had 30 interceptions to only 41 touchdown passes the past two seasons.
