Charlotte, N.C. — Former Carolina Panthers starting cornerback Bené Benwikere has been claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins, sources confirmed Monday afternoon to WRAL Sports Fan.
Benwikere was released by Carolina on Friday, five days after allowing Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones to catch six passes for 185 yards and a touchdown.
Jones tallied 12 total catches for 300 yards against the Panthers’ defense in the Falcons’ 48-33 win over Carolina last week.
Carolina promoted rookie cornerback Zack Sanchez from the team’s practice squad on Friday, the team’s fifth-round selection of the 2016 NFL Draft.
