CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Beau Sandland doesn't have cell service at his home in Simi Valley, California, that borders the Santa Monica Mountains. His family didn't get high-speed internet until about five years ago.
He grew up in an area where there are no sidewalks or neighbors.
But Sandland didn't need the luxuries of modern technology or a landscape of concrete and skyscrapers to know what he wanted.
That was to be an NFL player.
