Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey proved capable of handling an advanced workload in his second NFL season but coach Ron Rivera hopes to reduce his dependency somewhat next year. Off to a promising career, the Panthers need to maximize McCaffrey’s production and ensure he remains a part of the backfield for years to come.
Despite their intentions, there has been little action around the running back position this offseason other than letting Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker become free agents. The moves leave only Reggie Bonnafon, who signed as an undrafted free agent last season, and Elijah Hood, a Charlotte native who was injured and missed the 2018 season, on the roster behind McCaffrey.
