CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera wasn’t allowed by his wife to watch the dramatic Game 7 finish of the World Series on Wednesday night, so he went to sleep.

“Every time I would come in there would be a home run, and then all of a sudden something bad would happen [to the Cubs],’’ Rivera said on Thursday. “So I had to leave. It’s my fault.’’

Rivera spent 17 years in Chicago as a player and coach for the Bears, so he was pulling big-time for the Cubs in their quest to end a 108-year drought between World Series titles.
