For Robert McClain, the last month of the preseason comes with a final opportunity to stake his claim as a starter in the Carolina Panthers defense.
Signed last year due to the devastating injury which cost Bene Benwikere the whole of the postseason, McClain suddenly became an important piece of Carolina’s secondary when Charles Tillman also went down hurt.
When McClain joined the Panthers, the team that originally drafted him back in 2010, he was only expected to make up the numbers. Benwikere was looked upon as a solid piece of Carolina’s fantastic defense and there weren’t many who would held high hopes that McClain could replace his production.
