Panthers' Ron Rivera has home-turf advantage for Super Bowl 50

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Any other week, Ron and Stephanie Rivera would drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to the Old Fisherman's Grotto in Monterey and meet family members for dinner at their favorite table upstairs.

Ron would have the clam chowder and calamari because that's what he always gets at the seaside restaurant.

But this isn't just any week.

Rivera, 54, is preparing the Carolina Panthers to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday in Super Bowl 50 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

That the game will be played about 35 miles from the Fort Ord military base where he grew up, near the dunes of Seaside, makes it special because this area shaped Rivera into who he is.
