BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera said his proposal to clarify the definition of intentional grounding shouldn't compromise the safety of quarterbacks.
It will, Rivera said, hold quarterbacks more accountable for throwing a pass that has a "realistic chance" to be completed.
"Not necessarily taking protection away from the quarterback as much as clearing it up," Rivera said Monday during a break in the NFL owners meeting. "Some quarterbacks it's, "Oh, he got rid of the ball.'
"So now you're saying, 'OK, if that's going to happen, these guys are going to get turned and hit more violently?
