While most of the team’s stars are signed for the long run, there will have to be some sacrifices in order to stay competitive.
Today we got a reminder of that when the team released long-time veteran defensive end Charles Johnson, per Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer:

While Johnson is enormously popular with Panthers fans, it is a pretty smart move. Cutting him saves $11 million in cap space and his game is not what it used to be.
