Panthers want to use prime-time game to prove critics wrong

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera hates prime-time games. He hates the boredom and anxiousness he experiences during the day before he heads to the stadium. He hates the extra media demands of his players.

“It takes forever,’’ Rivera said as he prepared for Sunday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. “It really does. If I could play every game at 1 o’clock, I would.’’

Linebacker Thomas Davis doesn’t share Rivera’s feelings, particularly now with so much skepticism around Carolina’s 5-0 start.

“I love prime-time games,’’ Davis said.
