Panthers waive Robert McClain, sign Ben Jacobs

CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have released cornerback Robert McClain, a starter on last year’s Super Bowl team who has been splitting time with Leonard Johnson at nickel down the stretch in 2016.

With injuries impacting the secondary at points throughout the season, McClain started six games, recording 33 tackles and one passed defensed.

In his place, the Panthers signed linebacker Ben Jacobs to the active roster. Jacobs was with the team from 2013-15, playing 32 games as a special teams contributor and recording 24 tackles.
