According to a tweet from Bryan Strickland, the Carolina Panthers have released defensive lineman Drew Iddings on the eve of training camp and are expected to fill his roster spot with a tight end due to Chris Manhertz starting the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (aka PUP) list.
Marty Hurney says team has waived DL Drew Iddings with idea of signing a tight end, in part because Chris Manhertz is on preseason PUP.

With Manhertz being unable to suit up at the start of training camp it makes a little sense to want an extra tight end running drills with the offense.
