When it comes down to the final few roster positions, an ability to contribute on special teams can make all the difference. For a handful of Carolina Panthers, this may be their best opportunity at earning a position on the 53-man roster come September.
The Panthers had a revolving door at both the kick and punt return positions last year and hopefully things will change this season. New special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn has been an assistant and is familiar with his personnel, but who ultimately performs will secure the role.
Veteran running back Fozzy Whittaker was a likely candidate prior to suffering an injury that will have him sidelined for the entire upcoming season.
