Charlotte, N.C. — Carolina Panthers special teams advisor Bruce DeHaven has died following his battle with prostate cancer. Dehaven was 68.
The Buffalo Bills announced DeHaven’s death Tuesday night on Twitter. DeHaven lives in Buffalo and was a special teams coach with the Bills for 15 years.
DeHaven transitioned to the role of senior advisor to special teams in August and returned to his offseason home in Buffalo to resume cancer treatment.
DeHaven joined the Panthers in 2013 as an assistant special teams coach and was promoted to special teams coordinator in 2015.
The legendary special teams coach took a leave of absence in May of 2015 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer but returned to the team by the start of the regular season.
