CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- New Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Dontari Poe said on Friday that his weight won't be an issue next season, but the team still included a weight clause in his contract.
Poe will earn $500,000 in bonuses each year if he meets a required weight at four weigh-ins through each of the three years on his $27 million deal -- $13.3 million guaranteed with a $10 million signing bonus. The weight bonuses count in full on the salary cap as a likely-to-be-earned incentive.
It is similar to the clause Poe had in his deal with the Atlanta Falcons last year.
