Panthers offense searching for a deep threat

Carolina Panthers former first-round selection, Kelvin Benjamin, was traded mid-year to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for two future draft picks. The Panthers wide receiver was leading the team in yards at the time but upper management believed having two receivers of similar fashion, in Benjamin and Devin Funchess, that one could be moved.

Since the trade, Funchess has flourished in his role as the team’s number one receiver but Carolina’s lack of a consistent and reliable secondary option continues to drag down the offense. Rookie wide receiver Curtis Samuel was expected to fill the role but an injury forced a premature end to his first professional season.
