CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Thomas Davis had a quick reply when his 6-year-old daughter recently asked why he wasn’t around more.
“I simply explained to her right now that in order for her to continue to eat, Daddy has to work," the two-time Pro Bowl selection said on Thursday as Carolina prepared for Sunday’s regular-season finale at Tampa Bay. “She understood."
Davis, 33, isn’t hurting for money. He’s in the midst of two-year, $18 million deal that doesn’t expire until after the 2017 season. He has no plans to retire before that happens.
