Three minutes prior to the trade deadline last year the Carolina Panthers made a surprising deal with the Buffalo Bills to gain two additional NFL Draft picks. In exchange, former first-round pick, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who was leading the team in receiving yards before being dealt would be leaving.
New general manager Marty Hurney pulled the trigger, opting for more speed than size on the field and initially fans were in shock. Benjamin appeared to have rebounded from an ACL injury which sidelined him during the 2015 season, but was back making plays – although he wasn’t finding the end zone.
