General manager Dave Gettleman and the Carolina Panthers made Christian McCaffrey the newest member of the team on Thursday night. Electing to both help the offense evolve and ease the pressure off quarterback Cam Newton, McCaffrey should make an immediate impact in Carolina.
Listed as a running back, McCaffrey’s skill set is so versatile that linebacker Thomas Davis errantly referred to him as a wide receiver when announcing the first-round selection. However, Davis is not entirely wrong because the Stanford product can fit in the slot when needed.
McCaffrey will also likely be seen on special teams returning punts or kicks.
